Abstract

Objective To explore the application efficacy of the integrated "theory-case-practice-application" four-in-one workshop teaching model in the standardized training for sarcopenia diagnosis and treatment, and to provide a reference for the cultivation of geriatric medical talents.

Methods Medical workers from the standardized training course for geriatric medical technicians in Henan Province from December 9 to 14, 2025 were enrolled as subjects, and received specialized training for sarcopenia diagnosis and treatment through this workshop model. Questionnaire surveys and special assessments were used to compare participants' cognitive levels and skill mastery before and after training, analyze their satisfaction and willingness to promote the model, and an online follow-up was conducted three months post-training to evaluate the effects.

Results A total of 82 medical staff were enrolled. Before training, the compliance rates of participants in mastering core knowledge of sarcopenia and five core practical skills were only 25.61%-43.90% and 15.85%-19.51%, respectively; after training, the rates rose to 96.34%-100.0% and 90.24%-93.90%, with statistically significant differences in all indicators (P < 0.001). The results of the 3-month follow-up showed that the trainees maintained a good level of theoretical knowledge related to sarcopenia, and their diagnostic and treatment behaviors, such as clinical screening and individualized intervention, had been transformed to some extent. Subgroup analysis showed significant and consistent training benefits of the model across participants with different positions, professional titles and working years. All participants highly recognized the training format and clinical value, showing strong satisfaction and willingness to promote the model, and their subsequent training needs focused on comorbidity management, community and home-based management, and other related areas.

Conclusion This workshop teaching model can significantly improve medical workers' cognitive understanding and practical skills in sarcopenia diagnosis and treatment, standardize their clinical practices, serve as a feasible approach for the standardized training in geriatrics, and meet the developmental demands of healthy aging.
