New Medicine (Chinese name: Yixue Xinzhi Zazhi) is a comprehensive medical academic journal approved by the national press and publication department, supervised by Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party Hubei Provincial Committee, and co-sponsored by Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University and Medical and Health Working Committee, Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party Hubei Provincial Committee.

Purpose of the journal: To implement the health work guidelines and policies of the party and the state, implement the policy of combining theory and practice, popularization and improvement, report the latest research results of medicine, reflect the development trend of medical disciplines and the frontier of medical development, and promote decision-making, practice, education and academic exchanges at home and abroad.

Indexed status: It is indexed as Chinese Core Journal of Science and Technology (Chinese Statistical Source Journal of Scientific and Technical Papers), and Statistical Source Journal of the Annual Report of Impact Factor of Chinese Academic Journals. It has been included by China Academic Journal Network Publishing Database (CNKI), Chinese Core Journal (Selection) Database (Wanfang Data), China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), American Chemical Abstracts (2022) and other domestic and international databases.

New Medicine is a monthly journal, large 16 format, publicly published on the 25th of each month at home and abroad, and the domestic price is RMB 15.00 yuan per volume. History:

On October 10, 1984, the propaganda department of Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China approved the application for the start of New Medicine by the members of the Peasants and Workers Democratic Party in the medical and health circles of Wuhan City. The director is Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party Hubei Provincial Committee,  the sponsors are the Medical and Health Working Committee, Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party Hubei Provincial Committee, and the Medical and Health Working Committee, Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party Wuhan Committee. Prof. Zang Dapeng, who worked in the department of radiology, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University (formerly the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hubei Medical University), served as one of the main initiators and was the editor-in-chief from 1988 to 1991.

The journal was officially published in January 1985 and was a semi-monthly journal with limited domestic distribution. In 1986, it changed to a monthly publication. Between 1984 and 1991, the publication was discontinued for financial reasons.

In 1991, the journal was transferred to Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University (formerly the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hubei Medical University) for sponsorship and republication, and it changed to a quarterly journal. On January 19, 1999, the hospital established the "New Medicine" Press, which consists of an editorial department and an advertising distribution department. The director of the publication remained unchanged, and the sponsors were changed to Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University and Medical and Health Working Committee, Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party Hubei Provincial Committee, and this situation has continued to this day. In 2006, it  changed to a bimonthly publication.

On March 18, 2019, the fifth (enlarged) meeting of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University decided to cancel the"New Medicine" press and retain the editorial department. On June 5, 2019, the Committee of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University of the Communist Party of China decided to merge the editorial department of New Medicine into the Center for Evidence-Based and Translational Medicine, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University.

On October 12, 2022, the Committee of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University of the Communist Party of China issued the following statement:  to set up Zhongnan Medical Journal Press, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, which is fully responsible for the editing, publishing, distribution, and management of hospital journals.

On September 20, 2023, it was officially selected as Chinese Core Journal of Science and Technology (Chinese Statistical Source Journal of Scientific and Technical Papers).

On January 1, 2024, the journal changed from bimonthly to monthly.
