Abstract

Disabled elderly and people with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to falls and related injuries during toileting, which has become a major public health concern. Currently, systematic and practical consensus guidelines for comprehensive prevention of toileting-related falls remain lacking in China. Based on international and domestic evidence on fall prevention, lower urinary tract symptom management, geriatric rehabilitation, psychological interventions and environmental modifications, as well as China's actual healthcare and long-term care conditions, this consensus formulates 16 recommendations covering risk factors, assessment protocols, interventions and post-fall rehabilitation management for toileting-related falls. It is intended to provide a reference for toileting-related falls prevention and intervention for disabled elderly and people with disabilities in medical institutions, elderly care institutions, communities and home settings.
