Gastric volvulus is a rare clinical condition, with peak age group of incidence in people aged 40-60 years and <1 year. The causes of the disease are commonly associated with the abnormalities of hiatus and impairment of gastric ligaments. Clinically, the disease is divided into acute and chronic volvulus. The acute volvulus is a life-threatening condition, which maybe diagnosed by typical Borchardt triad and X-ray barium meal examination. In this paper, we reviewed the research progress on the causes, classification, diagnosis and treatment, so as to improve the ability on dealing with the disease.
