Shu Hongbing is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2011) and an Academician of the The World Academy of Sciences (2012). Dr. Hong-Bing Shu received his BS and MS degrees from Lanzhou University and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences respectively. He received his PhD from Emory University and post-doctoral training with Dr. David Goeddel at Tularik Inc. in the United States. He became an assistant professor and associate professor in the department of Immunology at National Jewish Center, dean of the School of Life Sciences at Wuhan University, and vice-president of Wuhan University. He is currently dean of the Medical Research Institute at Wuhan University, chief scientist at the Ministry of Education’s Centre of Frontier Science Center for Immunology and Metabolism, director of the Wuhan Institute of Biotechnology, professor at the School of Life Sciences, Wuhan University, and principal investigator (PI) at the Taikang Centre for Life and Medical Sciences, Wuhan University.

His research focuses primarily on the mechanisms underlying innate immunity against infections, inflammatory responses, and the inflammation-to-cancer transition. He has published over 180 papers in leading academic journals, which have been cited more than 15,000 times in SCI-indexed journals, and has been listed as a Highly Cited Chinese Scholar for 8 consecutive years. As chief scientist, he has led 3 major national scientific research programmes or key special projects. As academic leader, he has chaired the National Natural Science Foundation of China’s Pathogen and Host Centre for Basic Science, the Antiviral Innate Immunity Innovative Research Group project (which has received funding for 3 phases), and 6 key projects. As the principal investigator, he has received two Second Prizes of the National Natural Science Award and two First Prizes of the Natural Science Award from the Ministry of Education; he has also been awarded the First Outstanding Achievement Award of the Chinese Society for Cell Biology and the Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science.


Li Zhiqiang, first-level Chief Physician, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor; Head of the National Emergency Medical Rescue Team (Hubei). He serves as President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. Dr. Li has long been dedicated to the comprehensive treatment of brain gliomas and metastatic tumors. He spearheaded the establishment of a multidisciplinary brain glioma center and was the first in Hubei Province to introduce the multidisciplinary team (MDT) diagnostic and treatment model for brain gliomas and awake craniotomy for eloquent area brain tumors into neurosurgical clinical practice. He received advanced specialist training in France sponsored by the China Scholarship Council and conducted visiting research at Fukushima Medical University in Japan. He has led more than 20 research projects, including General Programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Hubei Provincial Key Research and Development Plan, and Innovation Group Projects of Hubei Provincial Natural Science Foundation. He has published over 100 papers in journals such as Science and Neuro-Oncology, and received three Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Awards. He concurrently serves as member of the Expert Committee on Clinical Antimicrobial Susceptibility Breakpoints Research and Standard Setting of the National Health Commission, standing committee member of the Multidisciplinary Diagnosis and Treatment Committee of the Chinese Association of Physicians, standing committee member of the Brain Glioma Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, and director of the Hubei International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Brain Glioma Research and Diagnosis & Treatment Technology.
